In a candid interview with The New Yorker, Daniel Craig expressed his mixed feelings about the Knives Out franchise’s transition to Netflix-exclusive releases. He emphasized how the first Knives Out movie succeeded as a traditional theatrical release, saying:

“It’s a non-effects movie. It did all the things it should have done, and people went to see it.”

However, Craig admitted it “saddens” him that the latest films won’t provide audiences with the same big-screen experience. Craig also discussed the pressure of portraying James Bond and how Knives Out offered a creative departure. Recalling Rian Johnson’s pitch for the role of Benoit Blanc, he humorously recounted:

“I said, ‘You want me to do a Southern accent? And he went, ‘Yep.’”

This collaboration resulted in the critically acclaimed Knives Out and its sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which received a one-week theatrical run before debuting on Netflix. Following Glass Onion’s success, Craig reportedly voiced concerns about Netflix’s distribution model, telling co-CEO Ted Sarandos, “Your model is f*ed.”**
