In the Planet of the Apes franchise, Caesar, the chimpanzee who sparked the ape uprising, has a rich family history spanning multiple generations. From his biological ape parents to his human caregivers and his own offspring, Caesar’s lineage plays a significant role in shaping the events of the rebooted trilogy and its sequel.
Who Are Caesar’s Biological and Adoptive Parents in Planet of the Apes?
Caesar’s biological parents were chimpanzees Bright Eyes and Alpha. Bright Eyes, known as “Chimp #9” in the Gen-Sys lab, was the first ape to display human-level intelligence after being exposed to the ALZ-112 drug. She gave birth to Caesar and protected him until her death.
After being smuggled out of the facility by Will Rodman, Caesar was raised by Will, his father Charles, and later, Will’s wife Caroline Aranha. Charles named Caesar after Julius Caesar, and the Rodmans treated him as part of their family, despite his ape nature.

Caesar’s Family and Offspring in the Planet of the Apes Trilogy
Ten years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Caesar married fellow chimpanzee Cornelia, making her the first Queen of the San Francisco Ape Colony. Together, they had two sons: Blue Eyes and Cornelius.
Blue Eyes, born in 2018, was groomed by Caesar to become the next king of the ape colony. He had a close but sometimes strained relationship with his father due to his distrust of humans. Blue Eyes married Lake, making her Caesar’s daughter-in-law.
Cornelius was born in 2026, and his birth was difficult for Cornelia, who suffered from an illness treatable by humans. After the deaths of Caesar, Cornelia, and Blue Eyes, Cornelius became the sole surviving member of Caesar’s immediate family, likely inheriting his father’s legacy as the ape colony’s leader.

Could Caesar’s Descendants Still Be Alive in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes?
While the latest film, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, confirms that the protagonists Noa and Proximus Caesar are not directly descended from Caesar, it is possible that his legacy lives on through Cornelius and his offspring.
With Caesar’s teachings and actions having a significant influence on the conflict between Noa and Proximus Caesar, it is plausible that his descendants, if still alive, continue to shape the ape society centuries after his death.
