‘Game of Thrones’ Showrunners on the Joy of Killing Off Villains
According to Deadline, while Game of Thrones was known for its shocking character deaths, the show’s creators, David Benioff, and D.B. Weiss, found particular satisfaction in killing off some of the series’ most despicable villains.
In an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Weiss expressed his fondness for the deaths of King Joffrey in season 4 and Ramsay Bolton in season 6, stating, “It was fun to go back to the old-fashioned joys of just killing off a really bad guy.”

The Iconic Death of Ramsay Bolton
Bolton, portrayed by Iwan Rheon, was one of the most evil characters in Game of Thrones, making his gruesome death by being devoured by hounds feel like a satisfying moment for the showrunners.
“It felt like it was balancing the scales a little,” Weiss said of Bolton’s demise.

Benioff particularly praised Sophie Turner’s performance in the scene where Sansa Stark witnesses Ramsay’s death, calling it an “epic” moment.
“What you do see is Sophie [Turner]’s smile. It was all in one shot, and we did it seven times or something… She nailed it on the seventh or eighth time, and it was just that feeling of — that’s so epic. Sophie was so good. When she got that shot, I felt like I can now die happy,” Benioff shared.
Game of Thrones is currently available for streaming on HBO Max.
