Key points:
- Kung Fu Panda 4 remained at the top of the domestic box office with $30 million in its second weekend.
- Mark Wahlberg’s “Arthur the King” opened in third place with a modest $7.5 million debut.
- Dune: Part Two held strong in second place, adding $29 million in its third weekend.
In a weekend where new releases struggled to find their footing, Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s “Kung Fu Panda 4” maintained its box office dominance, raking in an impressive $30 million in its second weekend of release.
Kung Fu Panda’s Continued Success

According to Variety, Kung Fu Panda 4 has now amassed $107.7 million domestically and $176.5 million globally after just 10 days on the big screen. The animated family film’s strong performance solidifies its position as a hit for Universal and DreamWorks Animation.
“It’s a testament to the enduring popularity of the ‘Kung Fu Panda’ franchise and its ability to resonate with audiences of all ages,” said David A. Gross of movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research.
Meanwhile, Mark Wahlberg’s canine drama Arthur the King had a relatively soft opening, debuting in third place with a modest $7.5 million from 3,003 theaters.
“It’s not a family film or a comedy, but it’s not a hard adventure for moviegoers who like edgier entertainment,” Gross explained. “All of that complicates the sell.”
Despite its underwhelming debut, Lionsgate’s $19 million investment in the feel-good story could potentially soften the blow of its box office shortcomings.

Dune: Part Two Continues Strong Run

In a close second place, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two added a mighty $29 million from 3,847 venues in its third weekend of release, with ticket sales declining only 37% from the previous weekend. The highly-anticipated sequel has now grossed $205 million domestically and over $400 million globally, positioning itself to outgross its predecessor in the coming week.
Other releases, such as Focus Features’ The American Society of Magical Negroes and Lionsgate’s Imaginary, struggled to find their footing, rounding out the top five.
