Elizabeth Olsen is stepping back into the MCU only this time, Wanda Maximoff isn’t saving the day. According to Nexus Point News, she’s taking on the role of the “Dead Queen,” the main villain in Marvel Zombies, Marvel Studios’ upcoming R-rated animated series for Disney+.
Fans last saw Wanda crushed beneath Mount Wundagore in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, sacrificing herself to destroy the Darkhold across the multiverse. While Earth-616’s Scarlet Witch is presumed dead, the version we’ll see here comes from the What If…? universe one where she’s infected with a zombie virus but still wields chaos magic.
How Did Scarlet Witch Become a Zombie in the MCU?

Her undead backstory goes back to the What If… Zombies? episode from 2021. In that reality, Wanda was infected by the quantum virus, and Vision kept her contained, feeding her in a desperate attempt to cure her. The virus resisted any treatment, leaving her a powerful, feral version of herself.
In Marvel Zombies, this Dead Queen won’t just be wandering aimlessly she’ll lead an undead army, with Black Panther’s Okoye serving as her second-in-command. Given her magic and complete lack of restraint, she could be the most dangerous villain Marvel’s animated universe has seen yet.

Does Elizabeth Olsen Voice the Dead Queen in Marvel Zombies?

Yes, Olsen is confirmed to return but with a surprising comment that she doesn’t “remember” recording for the show. Whether that’s a quick voice session she forgot or Marvel secrecy at work is unclear.
The bigger reveal? This zombie Wanda might actually speak. In What If…?, she only growled and screamed, but if she’s now the central villain, giving her dialogue could make the Dead Queen even more terrifying.
Will Wanda Maximoff Return to the MCU in Live-Action?

For now, Marvel Zombies is the only confirmed Olsen appearance in the MCU. She’s not listed for Avengers: Doomsday, and her live-action character is still canonically dead.
Of course, Marvel has brought back “dead” characters before especially when multiverse variants are on the table. If they do plan her live-action resurrection, it’ll probably take major setup.
Why Marvel Zombies Could Be Scarlet Witch’s Scariest Role Yet

The big hook here is tone. This is Marvel Studios’ first R-rated Disney+ project, which means they can lean into graphic horror in ways the films can’t.
Wanda has already shown how ruthless she can be slicing Captain Carter in half and reducing Mr. Fantastic to spaghetti in Doctor Strange 2. Now imagine that brutality without a PG-13 filter, paired with her zombie hunger. It’s a perfect storm for an over-the-top villain showcase.

Wanda Maximoff’s return as the Dead Queen feels like Marvel’s way of keeping her in fans’ minds while she’s off the live-action board. It’s a risky move to make a beloved hero an unapologetic monster, but if anyone can pull off terrifying and captivating at the same time, it’s Elizabeth Olsen.
When Marvel Zombies drops on October 3, expect one thing: Wanda’s not here to break your heart this time. She’s here to eat it.
