Peaky Blinders’ Legacy to Continue with Official Movie Greenlit by Netflix
According to Deadline, after weeks of speculation, Netflix has officially greenlit a ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie, with Cillian Murphy set to reprise his iconic role as Tommy Shelby, the leader of the titular crime family. The film will serve as the true ending to the popular crime drama series, providing resolution to lingering storylines from the show’s conclusion.
The ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie will be written by the show’s creator, Steven Knight, and directed by Tom Harper, who helmed the final three episodes of season 1. Production on the highly anticipated film is scheduled to begin later this year.
In an official statement, Cillian Murphy expressed his excitement to revisit the role of Tommy Shelby, saying, “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me… It is very gratifying to be recollaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.”
Director Tom Harper also shared his enthusiasm, stating, “When I first directed Peaky Blinders over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. Peaky has always been a story about family — and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
