What Happens to Player 222 in Squid Game Season 3?

Squid Game Season 3 introduces a tragic and emotionally heavy arc for Player 222, Jun-hee. Her pregnancy becomes central to the story, as the stakes intensify with every game. In Episode 2, Jun-hee gives birth during the harrowing Hide and Seek game, where players are split into hiders and taggers. Amid chaos, her allies—including Player 120 and Player 149—help protect her and the baby.
Player 120 is killed by Player 333 while shielding Jun-hee, and Player 007 tries to murder her but is stopped by his mother, Player 149, who kills her son in the process. Overwhelmed by guilt, Player 149 dies by suicide shortly after.
Following this, the VIPs make a disturbing decision—declaring that the baby must now compete in the next round along with her mother. With Jun-hee badly injured, this puts her in a precarious situation for Episode 3’s next game: a lethal jump rope across a glass bridge.
Gi-hun volunteers to carry the newborn, ensuring her survival. However, Jun-hee realizes she cannot keep up due to her injury and, to secure her child’s future, jumps to her death. Her selfless act ends her journey in Episode 4, marking one of the most devastating moments in the season.

Why Is the Baby Made a Contestant in Squid Game Season 3?

After Jun-hee’s death, the VIPs impose a chilling new rule: her newborn daughter will replace her as Player 222 in the final round. The decision further demonstrates the inhumanity of the game’s elite organizers, pushing moral boundaries by making an infant an official contestant.
The Front Man, clearly uneasy but compliant, allows the change. A later scene in Episode 5 shows the Front Man offering Gi-hun a chance to escape with the baby, indicating he harbors some concern for her safety. However, Gi-hun refuses the offer, unwilling to betray the remaining players.
In the final game, only two adult contestants remain: Gi-hun and Player 333, also known as MG Coin—and secretly the baby’s father. The tension peaks when Player 333 nearly kills his own child to secure victory. Gi-hun, in an act of bravery and compassion, stops him and eliminates Player 333 instead.

Does Gi-hun Win in Squid Game Season 3?

Technically, Gi-hun does not win the game. Instead, he sacrifices himself in the final moment, ensuring that the baby—now Player 222—wins the Squid Game. This act of selflessness does more than just protect the child; it leaves a profound impact on the Front Man and possibly sows seeds of change within the brutal game system.
In the aftermath, the Front Man arranges for the baby to be sent to Jun-ho along with the winner’s prize money. While the baby’s future remains uncertain, Gi-hun’s actions provide a glimmer of hope amidst the cruelty.
