According to Empire, Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has revealed that Squid Game Season 2 will be significantly darker and more gruesome than the first season.

He stated, “The story told in the second season is much crueler, scarier, and more gruesome than the first. Honestly, I thought to myself… ‘Is this too much for people to handle?’”

The upcoming season will continue to reflect real-world issues like climate change and global instability, mirroring societal despair. According to Hwang:

“It’s not getting better out there — it’s getting worse. Worse climate change, more wars, more people dying.”
