When Wednesday returned for its second season, fans quickly noticed a missing face: Xavier Thorpe, the moody artist who shared a complicated bond with Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday in season 1. While his arc seemed unfinished, the show wastes little time addressing his absence though it’s handled with a quiet, almost understated exit.
How the Series Explains Xavier’s Departure

In the season 2 premiere, Principal Barry Dort (Steve Buscemi) tells Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) that Xavier’s father, Vincent Thorpe, has pulled both his son and his financial support from Nevermore Academy. The fallout stems from last season’s events, when Xavier was falsely accused of murder after Wednesday suspected he might be Tyler’s Hyde.
Now, Xavier is studying at Reichenbach Academy in Switzerland a school with its own eccentric reputation, and one Gomez Addams (Luis Guzmán) fondly recalls attending for a semester.

A Letter, a Painting, and a Warning

Before leaving, Xavier sends Wednesday a letter via Enid, along with a painting of a disturbing vision he had: a cloudy-eyed crow clutching a white flower, perched on a shadowed gravestone. The imagery feels like classic Wednesday gothic, mysterious, and inevitably ominous. By the end of the episode, Wednesday’s own vision suggests the crow’s warning is tied to a dark prediction about Enid’s fate.
No Return on the Horizon

Showrunner Alfred Gough confirmed to TVLine that Xavier’s story is over for good. Off-screen, Percy Hynes White had already acknowledged he wouldn’t be returning for season 2, posting a farewell message to the cast and crew after filming wrapped on season 1.
In the meantime, White has moved on to other projects, including My Old Ass (2024) and the romance Spring, Winter, Summer or Fall, where he reunited with Ortega.

Why This Exit Works for the Story

Instead of killing off Xavier or leaving his absence a mystery, the writers gave him a clean, lore-friendly send-off that fits Nevermore’s strange world. It also frees up season 2 to explore new dynamics without lingering too long on unfinished business though the haunting imagery he leaves behind might still echo through the story.
