How Does Proximus Caesar’s Weapon Harken Back to the Rise of the Planet of the Apes?

In Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the powerful ruler Proximus Caesar and his ape clan rediscover electricity, using it to develop weapons designed to hunt humans. One of these weapons, an electric rod, bears a striking resemblance to the stun baton featured in the franchise’s first installment, ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes.’

The iconic ‘Rise’ scene depicts Caesar, the first ape with enhanced intelligence, being confronted by a worker wielding an electric baton. In a pivotal moment, Caesar grabs the baton and defiantly utters “No!” – revealing his ability to speak and setting the stage for the ape uprising.

Echoing Proximus Caesar’s Ruthlessness Towards Humans

While Caesar’s encounter with the baton was accidental, the trailer for ‘Kingdom’ shows Proximus Caesar’s apes wielding these electric rods with deliberate malice toward humans. This chilling callback not only highlights the full circle the franchise has taken but also underscores the stark contrast between Proximus and his predecessor in their attitudes toward humanity.

Caesar, though critical of humans, sought to understand them and avoid sinking to their level. Proximus, however, dismisses Caesar’s teachings, favoring the hunting and enslavement of the remaining humans. The electric weapons are sure to play a sinister role in his tyrannical reign.
