‘Civil War’ Coming to Digital on May 24
According to ScreenRant, A24 has announced that their theatrical hit ‘Civil War,’ the studio’s second highest-performing title ever, will be available at home via digital platforms on May 24. The movie, directed by Alex Garland (‘Ex Machina,’ ‘Annihilation‘), follows a group of reporters documenting a civil war that erupts when California and Texas attempt to secede from the United States.
With a $50 million production budget, ‘Civil War‘ is A24’s most expensive movie to date. The film had a strong box office performance, opening to $25 million and going on to gross $108 million worldwide, more than doubling its production budget.

Strategic Digital Release Timing for ‘Civil War’
While the digital release landing on video-on-demand (VOD) platforms just over a month after its theatrical premiere might seem quick, this timeline has become increasingly common since the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, the May 24 release date is well-timed to take advantage of the impending Memorial Day three-day holiday weekend in the United States.
The extra time at home, family gatherings, and military theme associated with Memorial Day could make the A24 thriller the perfect at-home viewing option for many. Additionally, while the majority of ‘Civil War’s‘ box office success came from the domestic market, the timing should still be favorable internationally.
