According to Variety, in a monumental clash of titans, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire has stormed the global box office, amassing a staggering $194 million in its opening weekend. This colossal debut secures the film’s position as the third-highest-grossing movie of the year, trailing behind only Dune: Part Two ($626 million) and “Kung Fu Panda 4” ($347 million).

The monster mashup, a joint endeavor between Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment, kicked off its international run with a commanding $114 million from 64 markets. Domestically, the film exceeded expectations by raking in an impressive $80 million during its first weekend of release.

While Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire made waves, Dune: Part Two continued its reign as the year’s biggest box office sensation. Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic has now surpassed the $600 million mark globally, solidifying its position as a true cinematic juggernaut.

Over the weekend, Dune: Part Two added $18.4 million to its coffers from 73 international markets, bringing its international tally to an impressive $373.7 million. Coupled with its domestic haul of $252 million, the film’s global gross now stands at a staggering $626.1 million.

In a remarkable feat, Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning historical epic Oppenheimer continues to captivate audiences worldwide, nearing the coveted $1 billion mark with a global haul of $965 million.
