During the company’s financial results announcement, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa addressed the elephant in the room, stating, “We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year.” As per the statement, Nintendo has until March 31st, 2025, to unveil the Switch 2, aligning with rumors of a Q1 2025 launch.

Furukawa clarified that a Nintendo Direct scheduled for June 2024 will focus solely on the Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, with no mention of the successor console.

Switch Hardware Sales Decline, but Player Base Grows

According to TheVerge, Although Nintendo’s projections indicate a deceleration in Switch hardware sales, forecasting 13.5 million units for the current fiscal year as opposed to 15.7 million the prior year, the number of active users engaging with the platform demonstrates a consistent upward trajectory.

While the platform continues to maintain a robust user base, Nintendo reported that the 123 million annual players recorded during the period from April 2023 to March 2024 represented the highest figure since the Nintendo Switch’s initial launch, underscoring the console’s enduring popularity.
